In London last month, John Peace from the Midlands Engine joined Governor Harry Logan and the Maryland Department of Commerce to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU continues building the business relationship between the Midlands region and Maryland, for the sharing opportunities in the cyber security market place.
The aim of the MoU is to promote economic development, support the growth of cyber security supplier businesses in the Midlands, UK and Maryland, USA. It is also to encourage and promote inward investment in each of the regions. As part of the agreement, both parties will continue visiting each region, to explore the increasing opportunities both in the UK and the US. The borwell team are extremely proud to be involved in such an exciting time for the Midlands region, and what the future holds for our business in this growing market.
Cyber Maryland is known as ‘the USA’s epicentre for cyber security and a hub for emerging technologies’. The state of Maryland ranks first in academic R&D intensity, first in high tech share of all businesses and first in STEM job concentration. Teamed with unique assets such as the US Cyber Command Centre and National Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, and 20 military facilities with 12 major installations, it is evident why Maryland is ranking so highly among US states.
In October last year, I attended and exhibited at the annual Cyber Maryland 2016 conference and exhibition, along with many other Midlands and Worcestershire based cyber security businesses and universities.
The borwell team has met several potential partner businesses from the USA. The objective is to partner and trade with USA suppliers, selling products and services globally.
With BREXIT getting closer, businesses have a great opportunity to raise their profile internationally. There are many countries looking to the UK for a Trade Agreement post-BREXIT.
My recommendation is to get your business ‘export ready’, by creating a succinct export strategy and having clear and simple explanations of your product or services.
